I totally agree with what you guys have said in the above discussion! This summer has been a reality check for many of us. What more can we ask than preparing so much for the future before big time comes? Good job Atalanta! You did something very awesome! I know how it feels like to not be able to find a job for a month or so. That was the case with me too! But then I realized that what really mattered is the one application that got you the job, so before I hit that one application I'm not gonna give up! It's great to hear so many people are so motivated for the new school year! Then we really have learned something very valuable from this recession! Keep up the good work everyone!

Hey Jenny,

Nice post. I should know all of these, after 4 years of college, but it's the perfect time for a reminder since I'm starting my final year in less than 2 weeks! Gotta get used to classes and studying again since I haven't been in school since December!

My favorite tip is the "feel a sense of urgency earlier." I've never been good at last minute studying, so I try and remind myself of this and start projects as early as possible, because I *know* I'll feel too stressed out to do a good job close to the due date!

Thanks Atalanta! I'm so glad I could help!

I have the hardest time starting to work too! During crunch time, I actually had to pretend that I was a zombie, physically forced myself to set up my work station without thinking about anything! Once I had it in front of me, a lot of my resistance was gone. I just though, since it was set up anyways, might as well as write something or look at it a bit. =P

But yeah, no matter how much tricks you have procrastination never goes away =P But if you're really motivated for 2A, I think you can continue to keep on top of things, and will probably feel good about working when you're in that situation.

Thanks for visiting my blog Atalanta, see you in school! =D

<a href="#comment-33" rel="nofollow">@Atalanta Ho </a>
That's awesome that you got a job in the end! If you didn't have so much trouble with finding a job in the first place you wouldn't have looked over your resume and wrote cover letters, which is a good thing to do!

I actually never had a real job before now so it was extra hard for me because I didn't have work experience. And most jobs I'm applying for just want work experience. =P It's great that you worked before this summer, I never realized how important it was till now!

I'm glad you're so motivated for 2A now! Put it to good use!

I'd definitely have to agree with you on the job search part. I've been having the hardest time this year trying to find a job. Throughout highschool, I've been spoonfed jobs. I've never ever had to do any job searching in the past. Most jobs I've had, were pretty much just given to me. This year I started on my job search adventure after my lovely HK trip. The only problem was, by the time I got back to Toronto, the type of jobs I wanted were mostly taken already. This bad timing added to my challenge of finding a job in a recession. I started writing cover letters, (I usually don't do that) revising my resume, spreading the word, and reconnecting wtih people I have networked with in the past. Never have finding a job been so difficult in my life. Eventually, after 1.5 months of hard work and waiting, I finally got a job! =) After this extensive job search, I have finally learned the value of timing, hardwork, and I have regained my passion. I am now totally motivated and ready to work super hard in 2A! =)

<a href="#comment-29" rel="nofollow">@Samuel Pauls </a>
Thanks Samuel! I have experienced again and again in my life that I grow the most right after I get hit hard. Sometimes we're so busy running forward that we don't stop for a moment to make sure you're running at the right direction. A setback, while disappointing at first, actually forces you to slow down and see where you're going.

I'm actually very glad that my job search wasn't so smooth, if everything just sailed along smoothly, I would've never stopped to think if I could become better.

Despite all that, we shouldn't have to wait till something hits us hard to make us stop and think, we should incorporate this into our lives naturally.

I really appreciate your attempt at finding the silver lining in life :) I remember Steve Pavlina (.com) writing that life is like a video game. He asked how far we'd get if we just throw down the controllers and complain when the levels get hard. I really really think that the challenges we face in life make us better people. It's nice to see that echoed in your post, Jenny!
